Iran receives Saudi request to hold joint naval exercise

TEHRAN, Oct. 22 (YPA) – The Commander of the Iranian Navy, Admiral Shahram Irani, has announced that Saudi Arabia requested a joint naval exercise with Iran, in a development that contrasts with the tense relations between the two countries.

The Iranian news agency “ISNA” quoted Admiral Irani as saying that Iranian naval forces are present in the Red Sea and that Saudi Arabia has expressed its desire to organize joint maneuvers in that region.

Admiral Irani explained that the proposal includes conducting bilateral exercises in addition to maneuvers with the participation of other countries, noting that coordination between the relevant authorities in the two countries is ongoing.

The Iranian Navy commander confirmed that the delegations of the two countries would conduct the necessary consultations on how to organize the maneuver.

He added that both countries invited each other to visit their respective ports.
