Grundberg concludes his tour in Saudi Arabia, UAE with empty briefcase

SANAA, Nov. 14 (YPA) – The visit the UN envoy Hans Grundberg concluded to Saudi Arabia and the UAE did not carry any positive indicators regarding the possibility of alleviating the situation in Yemen.

Despite the tense situation and the high expectations between the possibility of a return to war or moving toward a fair settlement, the statement issued by the UN envoy on Wednesday was too limited to provide clear indicators that could be positively relied upon concerning his recent tour in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which is considered a rare stop in Grundberg’s movements.

The UN envoy’s statement merely reiterated the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution that reflects the aspirations of the Yemenis and addresses regional concerns remains a shared priority.

Grundberg added: Discussions were focused on recent developments and ongoing UN efforts to maintain the momentum of dialogue aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability.’

Therefore, many observers considered these statements as an evasion of the obligations of lasting peace in Yemen, lacking even the simplest reassuring indicators for Sanaa, which has recently begun raising its voice to achieve a fair settlement for the Yemeni people and to move out of the ongoing state of neither-war-nor-peace since April 2022.

From the perspective of observers, it seems that the pressures Yemen is facing in particular, and the region in general, require Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi to take clear positions regarding Yemen, in order to avoid provoking the anger of Sanaa. Saudi Arabia and the UAE were supposed to take advantage of the UN envoy’s visit to send positive signals to Yemen and not allow Grundberg to leave empty-handed, especially since many experts and political analysts firmly believe that Riyadh and Abu Dhabi lack the sufficient will to go against any hostile American-Israeli agendas toward Yemen.

Meanwhile, the discovery of the recent espionage network run by the Saudi-American-Israeli intelligence from Saudi territory against Yemen provides enough reason for Sanaa to feel insecure and prepare for a new phase of confrontations. This necessitates that Saudi Arabia and the UAE not delay in clarifying their stance during this sensitive phase, which can no longer tolerate half-hearted positions.
