SANAA, Jan. 08 (YPA) – Head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdul Qader Al-Mortada, met on Wednesday in Sanaa with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
During the meeting, Al-Mortada pointed out the obstacles imposed by the other party, which led to the delay in implementing the UN-brokered deal, stressing the need for the United Nations to use all means of pressure on them to fulfill their obligations.
He touched on Sanaa’s full readiness to implement everything that had been agreed upon under the auspices of the United Nations and to participate in new rounds leading to a new deal including all prisoners from both sides.
Al-Mortada stressed the keenness of the political leadership in Sanaa to end this humanitarian file by releasing all prisoners, away from any other political calculations.
The officials also discussed ways to advance the prisoners’ file, especially completing the deal that was agreed upon in Switzerland last year.
For his part, the UN envoy explained that the next step would be to bring the two parties together at the negotiating table in the coming days to bring viewpoints closer together in resolving the prisoners’ file.
Grundberg praised the great efforts made by the leadership of the Prisoners’ Committee for its cooperation in resolving this primarily humanitarian file.
