Grundberg discusses in Tehran efforts regarding Yemen-wide ceasefire

TEHRAN, Feb. 05 (YPA) – UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed the importance of maintaining the progress made towards a Yemen-wide ceasefire.

This came during his visit on Sunday to the Iranian capital, Tehran, during which he met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and senior Iranian officials and diplomats.

In the meeting, Grundberg stressed also the importance of taking the necessary measures to improve the living conditions of Yemenis, and resuming a UN-sponsored political process.

“I am encouraged by the continued regional support for the UN’s peace efforts in Yemen while over 30 million Yemenis lives are at stake,” he said, stressing the need to reach a peaceful solution that meets the aspirations of the Yemenis.

“The discussions also were focused on the need to reduce tensions at the regional level and to prevent a return to the cycle of violence that Yemen suffered until the truce brokered by the United Nations in 2022,” according to the United Nations website.

The website reported that, “To this end, the UN envoy explored with Iranian officials ways to maintain an environment conducive to the continuation of fruitful dialogue in Yemen, including through continued and concerted regional and international support for UN-led peace mediation.”
