Guterres describes humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip as “horrifying”, calling for aid entry
NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (YPA) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said on Tuesday, “The clear and repeated rejection of the two-state solution at the highest levels of the Israeli government is unacceptable.”
He called for more aid to be allowed into the entire Gaza Strip.
Guterres added before the UN Security Council: “The entire population of Gaza is suffering from destruction on a scale and speed unprecedented in modern history… There is nothing that can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is appalling
Guterres stated that the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian Strip is “appalling” and that “the population of Gaza not only faces the risk of being killed or injured by the continuing bombardment, but also faces an increased chance of contracting infectious diseases such as hepatitis A, dysentery, and cholera.”
The UN official again called for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.
