Confrontations erupt among UAE-run militants in Shabwa

SHABWA, Aug. 28 (YPA) – Armed clashes erupted on Monday between UAE-funded armed factions and tribal militants in the oil-rich province of Shabwa, eastern Yemen.

Local sources in the province reported that Al-Baras tribes in Al-Saeed district confronted a military campaign carried out by the UAE-affiliated forces of so-called “Shabwa Defense”, to refuse storming their area under the pretext of searching for terrorist elements who had fled from Abyan province, south of Yemen.

The sources affirmed that various types of light and medium weapons were used in the confrontations, following the failure of tribal mediation to stop.

Shabwa districts are witnessing an unprecedented security chaos, following the Islah Party factions were expelled by the UAE-funded militants in August 2022.

In a speech to mark the 32nd anniversary of the founding of the party during last September, the head of Islah Party, Mohammed al-Yadumi, hinted at long-term confrontations in Shabwa.

Al-Qaeda elements, reinforced by gunmen loyal to Islah, launched various attacks by drones, in addition to explosive devices, on Shabwa Defense forces’ military points and sites.
