US judiciary gives Trump, other defendants 10 days to surrender to authorities

WORLD, Aug 16 (YPA) – The US judiciary in Georgia on Tuesday charged former President Donald Trump and 18 people on state charges stemming from their efforts to overturn the presidential election result in 2020.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis announced at a news conference in Atlanta that a 10-day deadline for Trump and the other defendants to voluntarily surrender to authorities.

“The defendants, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and other aides, were given a deadline until Aug. 25 to surrender to the authorities,” Willis said during the news conference.

The Fulton County District Attorney based her indictment on Trump and the 18 people involved in the “Corrupt Organizations and Extortion” Act, known as the “Rico” Act, which is in force in Georgia and provides for prison sentences of five to twenty years.
