US shoots down Chinese airship, closes three airports

WASHINGTON, Feb. 05 (YPA) – Washington shot down a Chinese airship and imposed a no-fly zone in its vicinity, while the Federal Aviation Administration closed three airports, US media revealed on Saturday.

US President Joe Biden said Saturday that the United States will “take care of” what is suspected to be a Chinese spy balloon that was tracked while it was flying in the skies of the country.

Biden’s statement came in response to a question about whether the United States would shoot down the balloon flying around the country in what Washington describes as a “clear violation” of American sovereignty.

Biden has discussed options with military leaders since they were briefed on the balloon on Tuesday. His advisors warned against shooting it above the ground, because debris could fall on people or houses.

The US President declined to answer a question about this issue during a press conference on Friday.

It is noteworthy that the Pentagon announced, Thursday, that it was tracking a Chinese spy balloon flying high over the northwest of the United States, which led to an escalation of tensions between the two countries.
