WORLD, Nov. 12 (YPA) – Former US President Donald Trump on Friday sued the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, seeking to block the panel’s subpoena that required him to testify and hand over documents related to the effort to overturn the 2020 election, according to a Florida court database.
According to the Florida Court database document, the subpoena is illegal because it violates the president’s powers and Trump’s rights under the First Amendment to the country’s Constitution (free speech), and the committee is not authorized to issue subpoenas.
Earlier, the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol sent a subpoena to Trump to testify and provide relevant documents related to the events of January 6, 2021, and is waiting until November 4, as congressional investigators want to begin questioning Trump on November 14.
The committee is investigating the events of January 6, 2021, when a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to block approval of the results of the presidential election won by Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
