SHABWA, Oct. 20 (YPA) – A senior security official loyal to Saudi-led coalition survived on Thursday an assassination attempt with an explosive device in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.
Local sources reported that unidentified gunmen believed to be affiliated with the UAE-backed militia, targeted the car of the former security director, Awad Thiban Al-Marzoqi, with an explosive device while he was passing on the main street in Al-Nasab neighborhood in the center of Ataq city, the capital of Shabwa.
The sources confirmed that the bombing resulted in the killing of Al-Marzaki’s son, Mubarak, and the injury of son of his brother, Ahmed Thiban, who were subsequently transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Shabwa has been witnessing insecurity and chaos after the UAE-backed militia took control of the province at the beginning of this year and expelled Islah Party militants from it in early August.
