UAE-funded militia begin staffing al-Qaeda elements in Abyan

ABYAN, Sept. 20 (YPA) – UAE-funded militia in Abyan province, south of Yemen, has begun staffing al-Qaeda elements into its forces.

Southern media outlets said on Tuesday that the Southern Al-Amaliqa Brigades began the process of under the name of a military force dubbed “Shield of Nation.”

According to the sources, the Al-Amaliqa forces changed the designation of some of their brigades to try to avoid criticism of them after their involvement in preventing the storming of al-Qaeda strongholds in Eumaran area and portraying those elements as “northern.”
