Sanaa reveals energy sector’s losses totaled almost 24 billion dollars

SANAA, Aug. 30 (YPA) – Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Sanaa revealed on Tuesday that the losses and damages that affected the electricity sector due to the war led by the coalition on Yemen amounted nearly 24 billion dollars since 2015.

The minister of Electricity and Energy, Mohammed al-Bakhitai said a news conference that 278 direct air raids were documented, targeting the electricity sector in its various facilities, and more than 800 raids near electrical installations, causing severe damage.

He stated that the number of victims among the electricity sector employees reached 83, while the number of wounded exceeded 300.

During the conference, al-Bakhitai confirmed that the electricity sector was systematically destroyed by the coalition and became out of service, noting that the sector is the backbone of life in its humanitarian or industrial service fields, and the destruction of this sector constitutes an integrated war crime.
