Southern leader killed in Shabwa

SHABWA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – A senior leader in the Southern revolutionary movement (al-Hirak al-Janubi), has been killed on Thursday by gunmen in Shabwa province, southeastern Yemen.

Local sources said that unknown gunmen shot at the head of the media department of the Supreme Council of the Revolutionary Movement in Shabwa governorate, Humam Hadi bin Laksar, as he was leaving his home in the Rawdha area, killing him instantly.

It is not yet known who is responsible for the assassination, but it comes in light of the escalation of differences between the southern factions, coinciding with the efforts of the UAE-backed Transitional Council (STC), to liquidate all its opponents, where it is strongly opposed by most of the southern components.

Shabwa Governorate has been witnessing unprecedented tension after bloody battles between the coalition factions, amid fears that the direct fighting will move to the stage of mutual liquidation, similar to what happened in Aden, following the confrontations between the STC  and Islah militants in early 2019, which ended with the expulsion of Islah from the city.
