United States puts looted Yemeni antiquities up for auction

SANAA, July. 14 (YPA) – Several looted Yemeni antiquities, which date back to the third century BC, were offered on Thursday for auction in the United States of America.

In his post on Facebook, the Yemeni researcher specialized in antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, said that “the piece offered for sale dating back to the state of Qatban, and is being offered for sale at the Artemis auction in the United States.”

“The Yemeni side of the looted piece matches the work of the Italian sculptor Amedeo Modigliani,” he added.

According to the researcher, many of the auctioneers are afraid because German and Australian customs have recently confiscated many shipments of antiquities from different civilizations.

The Yemeni researcher Mohsen called on the Yemeni embassy in Germany and Australia to check customs for any confiscated Yemeni antiquities and to restore them.
