Russia announces S-500 missile system enters service

SANAA, May 18 (YPA) – Russia officially announced on Wednesday S-500 missile system entered service.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Yury Borisov, the move coincided with the continuation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which would enhance Moscow’s capabilities in its war against Kyiv.

Borisov said: “His country is working on the manufacture of hypersonic missiles of a new generation, adding that the Russian army intends to supply its latest warplanes with these missiles, according to “Russia Today”.

The S-500 air defense system is a Russian surface-to-air missile/anti-ballistic missile system, with a range of 600 kilometers (370), designed to intercept and destroy intercontinental ballistic missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles and stealth aircraft.

Last June, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the S-500 anti-aircraft systems would soon enter combat service.
