Demonstrations in Canada call for ending war on Yemen

SANAA, March 27 (YPA) – Demonstrators in Canada’s Waterloo region called on Saturday for an end to the war in Yemen, marking the 7th years of conflicts in the country.

According to CTV News’ report, members of the Canadian Women’s Voices for Peace organized demonstrations throughout Canada, and in Waterloo, to protest against the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.

“From Victoria to Halifax, we are taking to the streets to demand an end to the war in Yemen,” Tamara Lorincz, a member of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace.

According to the annual report, last year Saudi Arabia was the largest non-US destination for Canadian military exports in 2020, with sales of $1.31 billion.

Ann Fitz-Gerald is the Director of the Balsillie School of International Affairs said, “It’s the worst humanitarian disaster on Earth right now.”

She continued in a statement to the television: The Canadian arms deal with the Middle East, is subject to a lot of scrutiny due to the civil crisis Yemenis are currently facing.
