Hodeida: UN team visits Al-Salief and Ras Issa ports

HODEIDA, Jan. 12 (YPA) – A United Nations team led by UN patrol commander inspected on Wednesday the conditions at the ports of Al-Salif and Ras Issa as part of visits by UN representatives to the province’s ports.

During his visit to a number of port facilities following allegations made by the Saudi-led coalition military spokesman.

Deputy Director of The Port of Salif, Engineer Hussein Nasser Farea gave an explanation on the mechanism of action at the port, which is limited to humanitarian work.

He stressed the importance of the UN team’s visit to the port to see first-hand its activity in receiving civilian ships loaded with food and humanitarian assistance, and about civilian facilities that coalition claimed allegedly that they are using for military purposes.

Farea considered the claims of the coalition forces to be mere fabrications and pretexts, stressing that the port of Al-Salif is free of any military manifestations.

He continued : “The port of Al-Salif is subject to continuous UN visits, adheres to all international maritime requirements, codes and procedures used in international ports, and it is free of any armed manifestations, military barracks, weapons collection depots or the launch of warships.”

Farea said the threat of coalition countries to target the port would be disastrous and would severely damage the livelihood of the Yemeni people, on whom they depend mainly for their supply of relief, medicine and oil supplies.

For his part, the  the UN team noted that the visit to the port of Al-Salif is part of the activity of the United Nations Monitoring Mission to see the commitment of the port authorities to the application of navigational regulations and laws, and not to use it for military purposes that threaten the security of maritime navigation in the Red Sea.
