UN calls on Hadi gov’t to enter communications equipment into Sanaa airport

SANAA, Jan. 01 (YPA) – The United Nations called on the Saudi-backed exiled Hadi government to urgently allow the entry of necessary equipment into Sanaa International Airport.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly, said the Saudi-led coalition’s Evacuation and Humanitarian Operations Committee had verified the contents of the shipment earlier this month, noting that the equipment is necessary for the safety and the safe use of humanitarian flights and relief operations in Yemen.

“The communications equipment at Sanaa airport has been subjected to technical problems over the past eighteen months,” Gressly said. The humanitarian flight crews had reported at least 10 cases, which they were unable to contact the air traffic control tower at the airport, and a situation is likely to be dangerous.

The UN official called for more efforts to continue receiving the UN planes in the capital, Sanaa.
