SANAA, Dec. 23 (YPA) – The National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs strongly condemned on Thursday the Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes on the coalition’s captives prison perimeter in the Central Security Command building in the capital Sanaa.
The committee said in a statement that the coalition airstrike on the prison led to the destruction of some of its facilities and a state of great panic among the captives, who numbered over 3,000 prisoners.
The statement confirmed that the prison targeted had been known by the coalition countries, and the international organizations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) previously had been informed for more than two years.
It pointed out that this targeting came hours after the ICRC visited the prison, holding the coalition countries fully responsible for the lives and safety of the captives.
The committee’s statement called on the United Nations and its organizations operating in Yemen to take serious and effective action to protect the prisoners, and take the necessary measures to hold the coalition leadership accountable for this criminal targeting.
