Helicopter crashes in northern Iraq, killing 5

BAGHDAD, Jul. 29 (YPA) – Iraqi Security Media Cell announced on Thursday, the crash of a helicopter near Amerli and the death of all its crew in northern of the country.

“The crew of a Mi-17 helicopter was killed due to the crash of the helicopter  near Amerli district, today dawn at 245 o’clock while they were conducting a combat mission,” the cell said in a statement .

“The helicopter  included Colonel Pilot Osama Tariq Abdul Obaid, Major Pilot Ali Fadel Ghadban, Deputy Officer Louay Hatem Farhan, Deputy Officer Atheer Fayez Ibrahim, deputy officer Wissam Ali Sfeih,” the statement read.

The cell did not disclose whether the crash was due to a technical glitch or that it had been attacked.
