Large explosion reported in west of Iranian capital Tehran

TEHRAN, Jul. 10 (YPA) -Iranian authorities confirmed Friday evening that a large explosion had been heard north of the capital Tehran.

Tehran Deputy Governor Hamid Reza Goudarzi, who is in charge of security issues said in a press statement that an explosion occurred inside Mellat (People) Park.

He added:  “We are investigating the dimensions and causes of the incident and we will provide information after we are sure.”

“We received reports of a large explosion in Tehran and rescuers and firefighters were sent to the scene,” Jalal Melki, spokesman for the city’s fire department, said in a press release.

Iranian television reported that an unknown object exploded inside a park, causing no material or human casualties.

Police units were deployed opposite a mallet park after reports of the explosion, and the Iranian Radio and Television Corporation is located in the same area north of the capital.

Fars news agency reported that the sound of an explosion was also heard in areas west of Tehran.
