Al-Houthi calls on Security Council, UN to change policy of coalition support

SANAA, Jul. 03 (YPA) – A member of the Supreme Political Council, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, called on the Security Council and the United Nations to change their policy in support of the Saudi-led coalition and its allies on Yemen.

Al-Houthi, on Twitter on Saturday, stressed the importance of this serious step that would support real peace in Yemen.

Al-Houthi commented on the news speaking the appointment of the Swedish diplomat, Hans Grundberg, as a new UN envoy to Yemen to succeed the outgoing envoy, Martin Griffiths, saying: “New UN envoy will come nothing new, and he cannot break the ice as long as .” policy of supporting aggression and continuing the siege is their prevailing approach and slogan.”

Media sources revealed that Grundberg has European and American support, while the United Nations has not yet officially announced his appointment as a new envoy to Yemen.

Earlier, Russia had rejected the nomination of Britain’s Nicholas Kay and Sweden’s Hans Grundberg as a new UN envoy to Yemen.

The appointment of a new UN envoy requires the approval of members of the UN Security Council, but Russia’s rejection of previous nominations means it can use its veto against British and Swedish candidates.
