State of emergency declared in Egypt for 3 months

CAIRO, April 25 (YPA) – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has declared a state of emergency throughout the country for three months. It began early Sunday morning.

The decision comes in view of the “serious security and health conditions” that the country is going through, el-Sisi said.

He explained that “the Egyptian armed forces and police are to take measures necessary to confront the dangers and the funding of terrorism, safeguard security across the country and protect public and private property.”

On the other Hand, Prime Minister Mustafa Madboli issued a curfew in a number of areas of northern Sinai.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health recorded 912 new cases of Coronaavirus (COVID-19), 39 deaths, compared with 884 and 45 the previous day.

“The total number recorded in Egypt with the new Coronavirus as of Saturday is 221,570, of which 166,457 have been cured and 12,998 have died,” ministry spokesman Khalid Mujahid said in a statement.
