MARIB, March 02 (YPA) – Fighting heavily intensified between Yemeni army forces and Saudi-led coalition forces in the north of Yemen’s strategic province of Marib, during the past 24 hours, military sources told Yemen Press Agency.
According to the military sources, the fighting has been concentrated since Monday morning on the outskirts of the northern city of Marib, where the army and committees are trying to penetrate the city through full control of Sahanl-al-Jan camp.
The Sahn al-Jan camp is still under the control of the coalition forces (the UAE wing). The camp had received militants from al-Qaeda elements as reinforcements last Thursday.
The sources said that the Yemeni army forces advanced from the several mountain ranges, ( Dash al-Khashab and Dash al-Haqn mountains ) towards the areas of Nakhla near the camp Sahn al-Jan.
The camp Sahn al-Jan is overlooking the city of Marib from all directions, where Yemeni army forces are trying to besiege the camp from several sides.
The sources confirmed that the coalition warplanes launched this morning, three air raids, targeting the weapons stores in Sahn al-Jan, followed by the sound of powerful explosions likely as a result of the destruction of weapons stores in the camp.
The raids are an extension of the camp’s unloading of sophisticated weapons provided by coalition countries over the past six years, the sources said, after a large-scale transfer of many of them in the past few days.
It is worth mentioning that the coalition forces, during the past two days, moved the “joint operations room” from Marib city towards ‘Al-Wadeah’ crossing at the border with Saudi Arabia,
The move is an indication of the near fall of the city in the grip of the Yemeni army forces. They are about 7 Km away from the center of the city .
