4,600 Palestinian captives still in Israeli occupation prisons by end of 2020

QUDS, Jan. 01 (YPA) – The number of Palestinian detainees in the Israeli occupation prisons by the end of 2020 reached about 4,600 detainees, including 543 minors and 128 women.

“The number of administrative detainees has reached about 380 detainees, out of the total,” according to an annual report issued by the institutions of the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the Addameer Prisoner Care and Human Rights Foundation, and the Wadi Hilweh Information Center – Silwan.

The report stated that “the Israeli occupation forces arrested about 4,634 Palestinians during the year 2020, including 543 children and 128 women,” and some of these were released during the year.

“The number of prisoners who were sentenced to life imprisonment reached 543, including five prisoners during the year 2020,” the report said, indicating that the highest sentence for a prisoner is 67 years of life to Abdullah Al-Barghouti.

According to the report, the number of sick prisoners has reached nearly 700, of whom nearly 300 are with chronic and serious illnesses and in need of adequate treatment and continuous care.”

The report added that there are at least 10 cases of detainees suffering from cancer and tumors of varying degrees, “including the 81-year-old prisoner, Fouad Al-Shobaki, who is the oldest prisoner.”

The report said that the occupation continues to detain the bodies of eight prisoners who were killed in prisons.
