Security Council approves decision to send aid to Syria

SANAA, July 12 (YPA) – The rotating President of the UN Security Council, German Ambassador Christoph Heusgen, announced that the United Nations Security Council adopted the Belgium-Germany draft resolution, which extends for one year the work of one border crossing point on the Syrian-Turkish border to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria, announcing the results of the vote.

Heusgen said: “12 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution. Three countries abstained. The draft resolution submitted by Belgium and Germany has been adopted. ”

It is noteworthy that Russia and China used their veto for the second time this week in the UN Security Council against a Western project on the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syria across the Turkish border.

A recent Russian-Chinese veto thwarted an attempt by European countries to extend approval for aid transfers to Syria via the Bab al-Hawa and Bab al-Salam crossings on the Turkey-Syria border, which had already ended, on Friday, July 10.

The United Nations Security Council rejected the second Russian draft resolution on the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing on the border with Turkey.
