Six activists arrested, others tracked in Socotra

SOCOTRA, April 9 (YPA) – At least six activists, members of the pro-UAE community committee on Socotra Island, have been arrested, local sources reported on Thursday.

The sources explained that governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous, who is loyal to Islah Party, issued an arrest warrant against the activists on Wednesday, against the background of the closure of a fuel station belonging to the businessman al Ahmed al-Eisyi on the island.

The sources added that there are other arrest warrants against social figures, and one of the general directors, but have not been disclosed.

The so-called the community committee of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council closed the al-Eisyi station on Tuesday, because the station’s administration did not commit to the new prices of oil derivatives.

This comes after the governor Mahrous was exposed Wednesday to an assassination attempt by the transitional council’s militia, and the arrest of a number of the militia leaders.
