Africans continue to enter Yemeni territory, amid fears of Corona spread

SANAA, April 4 (YPA) – Dozens of African migrants continue to arrive in Yemen without being subjected to a medical examination to detect their infection with the Coronavirus.

Local sources said on Saturday that the coast of Taiz province, which is under the control of Saudi-led coalition forces, is witnessing a continuous activity for the smuggling of Africans.

The sources confirmed that seven Africans arrived on Friday evening to the center of al-Shamayatain district, south of Taiz, coming from the west coast.

Africans are being smuggled while the Corona epidemic is spreading in all countries of the Horn of Africa, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea, according to the sources. As Yemen is a destination for migrants from these countries, and many aim to move on their difficult journey, to the Gulf States, especially Saudi Arabia.

The African migrants infiltrate into the main Yemeni cities with the help of smugglers, and with the deliberate complicity of the coalition forces represented by the UAE militias, which increases the fears of the people from the spread of Corona.

In the same context, residents of Bani Omar village in al-Shamayatain district last Saturday called on the forces controlling Taiz province to take the necessary measures to limit the flow of African refugees.

In a statement, the residents expressed their concern about the possible transmission of the epidemic through the refugees who pass continuously through the villages of the district.

The statement warned of the risk of the epidemic transmission through Africans to Taiz, especially in the absence of quarantine centers in the district.
