Explosion heard near US Embassy in central Baghdad

SANAA, Jan. 4 (YPA) – An explosion rocked the Green Zone in Baghdad, where the US Embassy is located, the RT website reported on Saturday.

So far, no casualties have been reported and the road leading to the US Embassy was closed after the rocket landed according to the RT reporter.

He added that a second shell landed in the presidential square in al-Jadriya area.

He pointed out that the presidential square includes the Peace Palace, where President Barham Saleh is staying, the residence of opposition Leader of the “Al-Hikma Movement” Ammar al-Hakim and a large number of politicians.

These developments came following  the assassination of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and the Iraqi military commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, early Friday by a US airstrike on their convoy near Baghdad International Airport.
