Griffiths to UNSC: Yemen is still at crossroads between war, peace

SANAA, May 16 (YPA) – The United Nations Envoy Martin Griffiths said that Yemen is still at a crossroads between war and peace, despite the progress made during the past few days after the redeployment of Sanaa forces from the ports of Hodeidah, al-Salif and Ras Issa.

In his briefing to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Griffiths said that this progress would allow the United Nations to play its key role in supporting the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, including strengthening the monitoring of the UN mechanism for verification and inspection.

“There are signs of hope, but there are also worrying signs, and the war usually peace and its consequence outweigh the positive impact of realized gains on the course of the settlement,” said Griffisths.

Griffith noted stressed that the redeployment should be followed by decisive actions by both sides to implement their commitments under the Stockholm agreement.
