$88 bln economic losses in total due to Yemen war: UN

SANAA, April 23 (YPA) – A recent study conducted by the UN Development Program (UNDP) has said that the total economic losses caused by the war on Yemen during four years reached 88.8 billion dollars.

“If the war continues until 2030, it would leave 71 per cent of the population in extreme poverty and 84 per cent of them malnourished, and it would cause economic losses of some $ 657 billion,” the study added.

A UN report has said the war in Yemen had hampered the country’s development for more than 20 years.

“Even if there is peace tomorrow, it could take decades for Yemen to return to pre-conflict levels,” said Auke Lootsma, a UNDP representative in Yemen.
