SCER announces results of elections to fill vacant parliamentary seats

SANAA, April 15 (YPA) – The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) on Monday announced the results of the elections to fill vacant parliamentary seats held last Saturday in 24 constituencies.

In a press conference held by the Commission, Head of the SCER Judge Mohammed al-Salimi said that the elections took place in 24 constituencies in the capital Sanaa and nine provinces.

Judge al-Salimi indicated that the number of candidates in the elections in these constituencies reached 81 candidates, including 21 partisan candidates and 60 independent candidates.

He noted that the number of those who cast their votes amounted to 416,957 voters, while the number of invalid votes amounted to 7,263 votes.

Al-Salimi pointed out that the participation rate in the elections amounted to 51 percent of the total number of voters registered in the voters lists amounting to 831,957 voters.

The election procedures were not conducted in nine constituencies, including one in Aden province, two in Abyan province, five in Hadrmaout province and one in Marib province, because some committees could not reach those areas, as well as the constituency No.(275) in Jawf province due to security reasons, he added.
