UAE exploits Socotra islanders’ needs to control island: Activist

SANAA, April 4 (YPA) – A Yemeni activist on Thursday revealed new movements by the UAE to impose its control over the Yemeni Socotra Island.

“The UAE, with its hypocrisy, arrogance and agenda, has become clear in the game of seizing the Yemeni Socotra and exploits needs of the families there to buy their loyalty with money and charity,” said Ahmed Balhaf, a media activist, said in his Facebook page.

Balhaf published a picture showing the UAE forces’ representative known as “al-Marzouqi” on the island, while he is distributing small amounts of money to children in a humiliating situation.

Other sources said that the UAE approved Thursday a new procedure within its efforts to control the island, which is a DNA test to determine the offspring of the islanders to distinguish them from others, in order to achieve its dirty goals in the occupation of the island and create sedition in the southern provinces of Yemen.

For more than two years, the UAE forces have been seeking to take and occupy Socotra Island through naturalizing, purchasing loyalties and deploying its forces on the island, as well as transferring much of the island’s plant and animal wealth to Abu Dhabi.
