Qatar calls for holding accountable those responsible for siege of its citizens

GENEVA, Feb. 25 (YPA) – Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, on Monday called for holding accountable those responsible for the siege imposed on citizens of his country.

“The international community has recognized the falseness of the allegations that underlie the siege that targets the citizens of Qatar and aims to undermine the state,” Al-Thani said in his speech at the opening of the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Qatari foreign minister described the measures taken by several Gulf states as well as Egypt as “contrary to human rights treaties and threat to the social fabric and human ties”, calling for holding accountable those responsible for “these illegal measures.”

Sheikh Al-Thani affirmed that “despite the blockade, the process of development and progress is moving forward.”

He also praised the efforts exerted by Amir of the State of Kuwait to resolve this crisis.
