Water Minister, UN Humanitarian Coordinator discuss cooperation aspects

SANAA, Feb. 20 (YPA) – Minister of Water and Environment Nabil al-Wazir on Wednesday discussed with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande the cooperation and coordination aspects in the field of water and sanitation.

They dealt with the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Water to expand the sanitation projects and the support required from donors in this regard.

In the meeting, the minister praised the important role played by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in supporting the Ministry’s efforts and activities and her keenness on providing the required support for water and sanitation projects.

For her part, Grande expressed her concern about the sudden collapse of the sewerage network in the city of Sanaa Due to the expiry of its default time, noting that she would urge UNICEF and UNOPS to focus on financing sewage networks and stations in the capital Sanaa and the provinces.

In this regard, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator confirmed that she would work to push donors to support the water projects in general and the sanitation in particular and would present that at the donors conference to be held in Geneva on February 26.
