UN appoints former Danish general Michael Lollesgaard as head of observer mission to Yemen

SANAA, Jan. 31 (YPA) -The UN Security Council has on Wednesday endorsed the appointment of former Danish general Michael Lollesgaard to head the UN observer mission in Yemen, AFP reported.

Lollesgaard will replace Patrick Cammaert, the Dutch general who had been appointed a little over a month ago to lead the mission deployed in the Red Sea port city of Hodeida.

According to AFP, none of the 15 Security Council members objected to the appointment, which was proposed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday.

Since Patrick Cammaert took office as head of the UN monitoring Mission in Yemen about a month ago, the truce plan has not achieved any progress, while the invading coalition’s militants have continued their daily violations of the ceasefire.

On Tuesday, Saudi-backed militants targeted a Yemeni demining team that was carrying out its tasks to open the road to the Red Sea grain mills, killing one engineer.
