U.S. lawmakers again seek to end U.S. support for Saudi-led coalition in Yemen

SANAA, Jan. 30 (YPA) – In a new attempt, US lawmakers are seeking to pass a resolution ending U.S. support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, Reuters News Agency reported on Wednesday

Republican Senator Mike Lee, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats, as well as Democratic Representatives Ro Khanna and Mark Pocan, planned a news conference on Wednesday to introduce the legislation, are planning to hold a press conference on Wednesday to introduce the draft resolution.

The Senate approved a resolution on the suspension of US support for the war in Yemen by 56 votes to 41 in December, when seven Republicans joined the Democrats to vote on what many considered a criticism of Republican president Donald Trump.

The aim was to show outrage over Saudi Arabia due to the fall of civilians casualties in Yemen, as well as the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Trump’s threat of veto against the resolution.

It was the first time of congressmen to support a decision to withdraw US troops from military participation under the War Powers Act, which was passed in 1973.
