Libyan navy rescues hundreds of illegal immigrants

SANAA, Jan. 23 (YPA) – The Libyan navy of the internationally recognized government of Concord has announced on Tuesday that it has rescued 332 illegal immigrants in two days.

The rescue operation “took place on Sunday and Monday through four different operations,” it said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.

The statement noted that the team of the first rescue operation was able to rescue of 141 migrants, two of whom were living on two boats, and the rescue operation took place about 95 miles away  in the northeast of Tripoli.

The deaths were the result of severe cold, and immigrants remained for more than 24 hours in a turbulent atmosphere with severe seawater cooler, the statement said.
