UAE recruits women in Socotra, sends them to Abu Dhabi for training courses

SOCOTRA, Jan. 17 (YPA) -The  United Arab Emirates (UAE)  occupation forces has begun recruiting women in the  Yemeni island of Socotra and sent them to Abu Dhabi to attend training courses,  sources familiar with the issue told Yemen Press Agency on Thursday.

“Over 20 girls from Socotra traveled last Monday to the UAE, allegedly attending security, safety and rescue courses,” the sources said.

The sources expected that the number would reach more than 100 young women arriving in the UAE in the coming days in batches, noting that the second batch will travel on Thursday, and yet another group next week.

According to the sources, their stay in the UAE is expected to be extended for over four months.

The sources indicated that former Socotra security director Brigadier Ahmed Issa Mohammed, who serves under the UAE occupation force, is personally assigned to the recruitment.

Abu Dhabi continues to recruit both men and women from Socotra, despite warnings from the Saudi-backed Hadi government.

Last October, sources indicated that the UAE had begun establishing the so-called Security Belt forces on the island of Socotra, similar to other Emirati-funded mercenary units in southern Yemen.

A UN report described the forces as acting in favor of the UAE in order to implement their own strategic agenda.
