 6-magnitude earthquake hits Indian islands

SANAA, Jan. 17 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the Indian island of Nicobar on Thursday morning, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.

The quake had a latitude of 7.6°N, longitude of 94.5°E and a depth of 84 kilometre, according to the agency of Xinhua.

There have been no reports of any damage or loss of life in the earthquake.

The Nicobar islands are an archipelago of islands east of the Indian Ocean between southeastern India and eastern Andaman islands, 150 km from Sumatra in Indonesia near the coast of Thailand and Malaysia in the eastern Andaman Sea and are part of India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
