“The photo of shame” with Saudi crown prince opens fire on former Spanish King

SANAA, Nov. 27 (YPA) – Former Spanish King Juan Carlos was critically criticized on Tuesday after a photo emerged in Abu Dhabi with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whose responsibility for the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi is being questioned.

The photograph was first placed on the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s Twitter account, and it also was published in several Spanish newspapers.

The conservative daily El-Mundo Newspaper described the photo as the “the photo of Shame”.

“The former king is committed to embracing the vision of the state,” the newspaper said in an article published on its website. Now it is not appropriate to appear in pictures with the Saudi crown prince. ”

The two hardliner Far-left parties Podemos and Izquierda Unida which oppose the monarchy criticized the unexpected meeting between the former monarch and the de facto Saudi ruler at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.

“It is humiliating Spain and Spaniards,” Pablo Echinique, a leading member of Podemos, said on his Twitter account.

Izquierda Unida leader Alberto Garzon questioned the Spanish royal family’s friendships, saying on Twitter they are a “faithful reflection of an era that has to end”.

“The Spanish monarchy is a problem not just for the Spanish people as this photograph shows. It’s not a simple photo, it is a symbol,” he added.
