U.S. judiciary declares its support for death penalty for New York assault bomber

SANAA, Sept. 29 (YPA) – US judiciary announced on Friday that it would apply for the death penalty if the Uzbek-origin jihadist Saibov is convicted of murdering eight people in a run-over operation on October 31, 2017, in Manhattan.

The federal prosecutor in Manhattan referred to the “seriousness” of the suspect in the future, who chose the location of the attack to cause the “greatest number of victims” to fall and “not to feel remorse”.

The federal judiciary charged Saibov (30 years) with 22 charges  in last November after the Halloween attack, which left the largest number of people dead since 11 September 2011.

He was arrested after being run over by his small van by pedestrians and cyclists in a crowded New York picnic place.

His trial is scheduled to begin in October 2019, but his lawyer said that he was willing to confess to the charges against him if the government gave up his request for execution, the New York Times reported.

The cases in which execution is requested are rare in New York and have been abolished at the level of State crimes.
