Detainee dies under torture in UAE-run prison in Aden

ADEN, Sep. 4 (YPA) – A detainee died under torture on Tuesday in a prison controlled by the UAE occupation forces in the southern port city of Aden, according to Yemen Press Agency reporter in the city.

The detainee Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, nicknamed “Cobra” died on Monday evening as a result of the various methods and kinds of torture he underwent in Bir Ahmed Prison in Aden, one of Hassan’s relatives told the reporter.

However, media outlets funded by the UAE reported that the prisoner “Cobra” died by suicide after having a large dose of drugs.

The prison administration loyal to the UAE occupation refused to release the prisoner, although it has orders from the prosecution to release him, according to security sources.

The prisoner Hassan is from Sheikh Othman district of Aden province, and he has been in the UAE detention camps for nearly a year.

A report of UN experts has confirmed that nearly 200 adult male detainees in the UAE secret prisons in Yemen’s southern provinces had been exposed to sexual violence and rape by Emirati soldiers and officers.
