Deputy PM, UN official discus  humanitarian situation, developments on national scene

 SANAA, Sept. 3 (YPA) – Deputy Prime, Minister of Finance, Hussein Abdullah Maqbuli, on  Monday discussed with United Nations Resident Representative for Humanitarian Affairs for Yemen, Liz Grande the humanitarian situation and developments on the national scene in light of the ongoing aggression and siege.

The meeting touch upon the mechanisms of cooperation between the UN humanitarian relief organizations and the concerned government agencies to facilitate the delivery of assistance to the target groups of displaced persons, poor families and people with special needs, as well as  strengthen cholera control efforts and improve the performance of medical and service facilities, particularly in the water sector, and provide them with operational needs to ensure their continued operation.

Maqbuli pointed out that the Yemeni people suffered for nearly four years of this unjust war in addition to the suffering of state employees because of the suspension of payment of salaries for more than two years.

“It is no longer limited to the provision of humanitarian and relief aid, whatever these efforts will be, and will continue to be limited in light of the continued war, siege and massacres on a daily basis, and not to address the problem of salaries and strengthen the efforts of the Salvation government to stop the economic deterioration and strengthen the stability of the national currency,” Maqbuli said.

Maqbuli stressed on the importance of achieving peace, security and stability for all regions to ensure the return of displaced persons to their cities and villages and provide them with basic needs.

The UN humanitarian coordinator expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Salvation government and its cooperation with the UN in implementing the humanitarian response plan.
