Qatar asks Iran to activate maritime traffic with it

TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (YPA) – Deputy head of the Iranian Ports and Navigation Corporation, Hadi Haq Shinas, on Saturday said that Qatar has applied for the activation of shipping lines with Iran.

“The Qatari initiative provided for the activation of navigation between the ports of Bushehr in southern Iran and Qatar’s Hamad port,” said Shinas in a press statement.

He explained that Qatar had been, before the Saudi-Emirati embargo, securing their goods from these two countries, but now it asked to increase shipping traffic via sea lines with Iran to promote trade with them.

It is possible to transport goods in transit from Turkey and other neighboring countries to Qatar ports by using appropriate navigation lines from Bushehr port in Iran, he added.

Since June 5, 2017, Qatar has been facing a diplomatic crisis with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, which cut off diplomatic ties with the Qatari authorities and halted the maritime, land and air traffic with the country.
