UN official: Situation in Yemen must be investigated independently, impartially

SANAA, Aug. 25 (YPA) – The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, Lise Grande, said that the situation in Yemen should be investigated in a neutral and independent manner, calling for action to end the hostilities.
In a statement, Grande said it is time for everyone to wake up to the reality of this terrible war and its human cost and to work together for stopping the hostilities.
Grande pointed out that an air strike hit a house in Duraihimi district south of the city of Hodeidah, killing four civilians and wounding two others, the next day, an air strike killed 27 civilians, including 22 children, four women and a driver, in same district.
“Just two weeks ago, dozens of innocent children were killed and wounded in Saada,” Grande added.
“These incidents must be investigated independently and impartially so that we can all know the truth,” Grande said.
According to the statement, Yemen is the biggest humanitarian disaster in the world, where more than 22 million people, 75 per cent of the population, need some form of humanitarian assistance and protection.
The statement said since 2015, countless civilians have died for preventable causes, including malnutrition, disease and poor health, indicating that at least one child dies every 10 minutes for reasons related to the war.
