Tourism ministry, Promotion Board condemn targeting of Zabid historic city

SANAA, July 3 (YPA) – The Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Promotion Board condemned the targeting of the historic city of Zabid, which is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, by the US-backed Saudi coalition warplanes, in a statement obtained by Yemen Press Agency on Tuesday.

 

The ministry and the promotion Board denounced repeating the targeting of  the city and other historical cities and monuments in Yemen and turning it into targets for air raids without any regard for the lives of the civilians or the historical value of buildings.

The statement reviewed the series of coalition crimes that targeted the historical cities and sites, listed in the World Heritage List, particularly the old Sana’a and Kokban in the province of Mahweet, the Citadel of Qahira in Taiz, the cities of Sarawah and Barakesh in Marib, and other sites, forts, castles, mosques, palaces and temples in several provinces.

 

The statement stressed on the continuing crimes against the Yemeni heritage, history and civilization imposing on the international community to carry out its responsibilities to stop the aggression on Yemen, and the preservation of historical and archaeological cities and sites.

The historical city of Zabid is one of the most important capitals, cities, centers of scientific and cultural enlightenment in the Arab and Islamic world, dating back to the third century AH, having scientific schools, mosques and strategic location in Sahl-Tahami.
