Two Int’l Orgs call on UAE to stop torture in Beir Ahmad prison in Yemen’s Aden

ADEN, June 30 (YPA) – Two human rights organizations on Friday called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to adopt effective recommendations to the UAE for continuing to violate labor rights within the country, as well as torture in domestic and foreign prisons run by UAE forces, especially in Yemen’s Southern provinces.

This came in a joint statement by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and the International Institute for Rights and Development, just before a decision was taken at its current session on the violations of the United Arab Emirates.

The two organizations called on the council to investigate into dozens of harsh testimonies of detainees held in prisons runs by the UAE in Yemen, in particular, the prison of Beir Ahmad in Aden, where detainees spoke of severe and brutal torture, including sexual violence and humiliation.

The statement called on the UNSC members to take serious measures against the ongoing violations of human rights in the UAE, as UAE did not adhere to the Council’s previous recommendations.
