Foreign Ministry calls for int’l probe into coalition crimes in Yemen

SANAA, June 27 (YPA) – Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called for the formation of an independent international commission to investigate crimes committed by the states of Saudi-led coalition in Yemen since 26 March, 2015.

The ministry strongly condemned, in a statement, the continued crimes and assaults of the coalition warplanes against civilians, the latest of which was targeting of a bus carrying displaced people in Hodeidah province, which resulted in killing nine people and wounding 20 others.

The statement affirmed that the international community silence is what encouraged the coalition to continue in committing such crimes and massacres against the Yemeni people.

“These crimes aimed to obstruct the peace efforts currently exerted by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to end the aggression and lift the siege imposed on Yemen for the fourth year in a row,” read the statement.

The statement called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities to protect civilians and to condemn such flagrant violations of international humanitarian laws in Yemen by the aggression coalition.
