China provokes US with military parade off coast of Taiwan

BEIJING, Nov. 28 (YPA) – China announced that it will hold military exercises off the coast of Taiwan, following the visit of a delegation of members of the US Congress to the island, which Beijing considers part of the territory of China.

The spokesman for the Eastern Front Command of the Chinese army, Shi Yi, announced, in a statement issued on Friday, the conduct of a “marine and air patrol for combat readiness” towards the Taiwan Strait. He stressed that this patrol represents a “necessary measure, in response to the current situation in the strait.”

The military official pledged that the Chinese army “will protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, will remain on high alert and will at any moment take all necessary measures to counter any influence by foreign forces or a separatist plot seeking the so-called independence of Taiwan.”

The spokesperson noted that China has filed a formal protest to the US side regarding this visit.

China also issued a “stern warning to the Taiwan authorities that attempts to solicit foreign support and dependence on the United States in its pursuit of so-called independence is ultimately a deadlocked.”
